pike on loch ness

Recommended Posts

Hi and welcome to AN, never even been to Scotland so can not help. But thought I would say hello to bump this up the listings as I am curious what may lurk in the loch.

Any Scottish Pikers about who can help mcneilio?

Stephen

well we went to loch ness and never seen a pike spent the weekend trouting got lots of small broonies and we were snapped a few times as well not bad considering we were using 12lbs line but it was hard work the weather was awful but still a great weekend if anyone can suggest a good area for pike on the loch id really appreciate it

What method did you use on the Loch? Lures/Deads or lives?

I caught a few pike on spinner from the bank on loch ness about 20 years a go. Think i had 3 in about in an hour when we stop for a picnic, but they were only jacks (3-4lb). Don't remember using line as heavy as 12lb and wouldn't expect it to snap if i did. Maybe you need to look at your tackle before you leave any more hooks in fish.

I have pulled up a square meter of lake bed on 12lb line. Even bent a two size 8 hooks straight using 12lb line just the other day, in fact scrap that I had an 8lb hook length on also! Are you sure you wasn't just losing the hooks? A little curly bit on the end of the line is normally a good indication of a knot that has failed. Either that or shots are being put on way too tight and weakening the line maybe?

But to break 12lb line a ''few'' times indicates either very poor quality/old perished line. Or something wrong with the rig somewhere.

Or maybe you hooked the Loch Ness Monster!!!

If you Fish Any Scottish water with LIVE BAIT you are braking the LAW , if your caught you can and will loose all your tackle and any vehicle your are using whether or not it is yours or hired/borrowed

and be fined up-to £5000 average is (£2750)

so please check on angling rules if you intend to fish up here in Scotland ,

the Bailiffs don't fek about or accept excuses like i didn't Know

get yourself to an area with boats moored for instance near the top end of the loch where the river runs in

some nice fish there or try loch AWE or Laggan some really nice fish there .

try dead bait Brown trout about 6 to 8 inches in size. minimum 15 lb line and wire trace
