any catfish tips

i am going to have a go at catfish fishing this year i shall be using my carp gear (12ft north western carbon kevlar rods 2.5lb tc and my trusty diawa brt somethings) but what is the best line ,hooks etc and which hooklength is abrasion resistant?? any tips

havent done much catfishing but this is the little i know.

 

line would obviously depend on the size of fish in the venue,if they only go up to about 30lbs

,15-20lbs b.s would probably do. but depending on how big they go you might need to go as heavy as 45lbs (but i doubt it,ive only gone this heavy on the ebro fishing in snaggy spots),i belive some people use 100lbs braid straight through.

 

as for hooks ive used size 1/0 semi barbed and big (size 5/0) singles.

 

hooklenghts,have a look at grey 60lbs b.s ,drennan

greased weasel,it works well for conger and bull huss etc,it could be a good alternative to braid or wire.

 

AS i said i have very limited knowledge of cats,there are none in ireland,so this is not tried and tested stuff its just info ive picked up.
