Rod tapping Pike

A discussion in the pub lunchtime with other Pikers showed that recent Pike caught from our River on ledgered deadbaits just tapped the rod but no runs as usual. Even I had a 6lb fish that just tapped the rod tip not unlike a roach bite!

 

I guess it is the cold and they are just tugging at the bait swallowing on the spot? Nobody had deep hooked fish.

 

any ideas please?

Then if your bite detection is set up correctly thats more than enough so no problem.
