There is a lot of money in shark fins, when I was working in Oman the locals fishing in 22ft beach boats woulf get far more for one shark than a boat full of yellowfin tuna. Gordon Ramsey mouthing off about conservation to a bunch of Costa Rican fishermen would not win him many Brownie points. Thes will be subsistance fishermen working for the local Mafia, and they have families to feed. They could not give a **** about preserving sharks or over fishing. Life is all about surviving for another day!

There is a much bigger picture to all this than we in the West want to see. China is a growing economy with plenty of wealthy people to pay for their shark fin soup and we will not re-educate the Chinese in a hurry
