The best parts of the lake are out of bounds, thanks to the birdy conservationists. The swims are gradually being done away with as and when the RSPB decide.

Don't know how much they pay in rent nowadays. I think it was £1.00 a year to start with.

There is a public footpath through the reedbeds but visitors are encouraged to think that they have to join the RSPB to use it.

I met one RSPB member who had been persuaded, I presume by the warden, that the carp should be taken out of the lake because they were eating the young ducks! "They just come up underneath them and SLURP them down." NO COMMENT!!

 

A few years ago an someone told me that there was a carp of 32lb+ in there. It must be bigger by now.

 

The roach seem to come and go, depending on who you talk to.

 

There are some pike in the lake.

 

There are well over 30 resident cormorants.
