Braid deterioration

Pangolin

Recommended Posts

I've bought braid ready-tied hair-rigs that I've used for carp fishing this year. The rigs have been stored, wound onto a 'rig bin' between outings. I'm surprised to see how badly the braid has deteriorated. would this be a problem for braid loaded onto a spool? I've thought about using braid for my pike fishing but seeing this, it really puts me off.

i've never had braid deteriorate in that way, i use it for most of my fishing. don't let that put you off using it for piking, the sooner you do, the sooner you can start fishing properly!

Not sure what you mean by 'deteriorate' pangolin. If you mean its gone soft, the colour has washed out and looks a little tired, then thats exactly what happens to braid. You can even live with a bit of fuzziness. The time to bin it is when its unravelling or there's visible damage. I average about three years per spool.
