ok so im going to fish a gravel pit tomorrow for bream

gonna use a bit alarm and have a few questions:

Must i use a baitrunner or will a normal rear drag real be ok?

Do i use light or heavy bobbins?

should i fish bolt rig or running/semi bolt?

never normaly use bite alarms , just out with family for the day for picnic and gonna put a rod out i

dont have to keep an eye on (normanly quiver)

thanks in advance

I agree with dales if you are going to be distracted then if you have a baitrunner use it, especially if there are carp present (as there allways are nowadays)

But remember I beleive it is an offence to leave your rod unnatended.

All 3 options would work fine and I would advise on fishing which ever method you prefer and would normaly use, but a bait runner would make life easier if you are going to be distracted enjoying a picnic but you can still fish with out one.

But remember I beleive it is an offence to leave your rod unnatended.

A bait runner is a help but you can get away with out one.

Put a small elastic band or loop of pole elastic onto your rod above reelseat.

Once cast out and bobbin set open your bail arm and turn reel handle until tension is felt (ie bail arm is going to engage) tuck line from open spool under the elastic band which has been pulled down into position keeping the line tight so that no more line comes off spool.

To adjust bobbin loosen cluth and turn spool either way the take line on or off spool whilst increasing or decreasing the loop of line under the band (sounds tricky but very simple to do).

If you get a good run a fish will just pull the line out of the band and take line from the open spool.

Just engage bail arm and you are into the fish but be carefull that no line has caught on anything.
