Catching specific breeds of fish

Hello Ging,

Welcome to Anglers Net.

As some have already explained species are often quite deliberately and carefully targeted.

Please let me describe some of the forms of coarse anglers.

You have in angling a general angler or pleasure angler who is happy to catch whatever fish comes along, be he or she at river or lake often without any particularly specialised tackle. These anglers appear to derive as much pleasure and enjoyment from the getting away from the hustle and bustle of daily and getting closer to nature as they do from actually catching fish.

Then you have the angler who can usually be found at well stocked commercial lakes who solely wants to catch lots of fish almost regardless of his or her surroundings.

Then you have the match anglers who just love to compete against other anglers in competition.

Then we have the dedicated Carp angler who chases the mighty Carp, these anglers are happy to wait out long periods of almost total inactivity in the hope of catching a large Carp, these men and women have very specialised tackle and almost appear to be as much campers as they are anglers with their bivvies and beds usually found fishing with multiple rods and multiple rod licences. They can often be found using all the latest technology from bait boats to underwater echo sounders and underwater cameras to electronic bite alarms many of them spend a fortune on their tackle. For the past twenty years Carp anglers have pushed fishing comfort further than any could have expected and are in my opinion the one group who are forever pushing tackle companies to improve both the comfort and advancements in fishing technology.

Then you have the anglers who mainly target a single species who also use more specialised tackle which is primarily designed with a single species of fish in mind.

Lastly comes the specimen hunter who targets not just one species but fish of their chosen species who are near to or exceed the national record for that particular species. These anglers not only use highly specialisd tackle and baits but very carefully select parts of rivers or lakes which are known to be favourite haunts of their chosen or target species.

I don't know what camp I fall into. I'll fish for anything but I normally pick 1 or 3 species on any given session and aim for them. It's rare for me to just fling a bait out and hope something, anything grabs it. I've always got something in mind.
