Hi all,

I spent most of today pondering the significance of this thread. IMO sometime we get so close to the forest we can't see any trees.

Left behind? Perhaps that is a choice, made voluntarily after substantial consideration.

My view is that variety is the major spice of sport fishing.

No one view of what is best for all has, at least too date, stood the test of time.

Bare in mind, morality is a matter of locality.

One only has to consider the two different definitions of the word "stringer" as used in the UK vs US.

When I decided to start logging into angling forum, I thought I would find some useful tips about fishing - stupid boy !! Can't all these self important and self appointed people see that your average angler doesn't give a monkeys ? Angling is not a democratic institution that reflects society- it's a bunch of enthusiastic people who follow an interest. It's not life and death and it certainly does not lend itself to the democratic process. Those who see themselves as 'leading lights' in the sport are those who generally earn a living from the sport, want to earn a living from the sport,or who have a self-interest. The vast majority of anglers are content to let these people get on with it and do their thing . The rest of us just go fishing. But please, please, if you are one of these people, don't imagine you represent all anglers. You represent only those people who are in your club, association or whatever your group is called - if they want you to- and you only know that if you have a mandate from them. I actually believe that angling is such a diverse activity that it would be virtually impossible to get unity or a truly representative body.In the long run, we will get what we deserve, but at the moment, if politicians (real ones that is) continue to believe the publicity that there are millions of angling voters out there, the less form and substance that we put to it the better - keep them guessing !

Pete,

What a very sad attitude. Sure you can stick your head in the sand and pretend that angling is all sweet and smelling of roses and has no problems or issues that affect it now and not just for the future.

These 'self important and self appointed people' are anything but (have you ever met any of them ?). These guys (and ladies) are just trying to protect angling for the future of everyone and not just their members - all are appointed by a vote from their respective organisations. And don't forget, if angling falls by the wayside it isn't just be group members who won't be able to fish.

Finally if you do just want to kid yourself that everythings fine then don't read the messages.

Rob.

Well Gent's,

In all honesty i believe he is closer to reality than some of the rubbish i have read.....the truth of the matter is that most just don't give a damn and untill we find a way to convince them otherwise "we" will be the minority.

Dear everyone in the world it seems,

I am new to this forum but not this topic I have been aware of the formation of the S,A,A through my commitee position within the N,A,C .

I feel that ALL anglers should get behind this important situation, and support all the officers when they are elected, I think most of these postings however well intended are damageing to the overall appearance of angling and this is getting to be embarresing

I am not meaning to say that anyone should not air their veiws, but that you should think very hard about any future postings on this subject.

Lets ALL wait and see what happens in May, I would hope to see all of the postees attend the 1st meeting as you all seem to care but may be lost or unable to think straight at present.

None of my words are ment to offend anyone but are the way that I see the situation at present.

So please think about who may be reading your words.
