ultima pro match

Has anyone used this line before?

It's a reduced diameter sinking line that I am trying out for hooklengths. I normally just use ultima grey mist but the shop ran out and said try this stuff. I got a 5lb 0.13mm spool.

I always use a palomar to join hooks and swivels and never had problems before with grey mist or maxima. I always take great care tying rigs etc at home and always retie anything that looks strange but with this new stuff 50% of the knots are no good and break when I tighten them down. However they all look fine to my eye but break nevertheless when tested.

I've landed good tench and 10lb carp on this stuff so I know it's up to the job but when it breaks so easily just testing a knot it just adds a bit of uncertainty to everything.

Anything I can do about it?

Hi, prez, I use ultima pro, its not bad, but I dont test it to any extremes, (micrometres etc), I use it on my pole line length and hook lengths, but a line that Im beginning to use and find stronger and thinner is "Reflo" powerline, a little dearer, but worth it...cheers...hoppy

It's been a while I forgot all about this post. Thanks for the bump Elton.

Hoppy, I think ultima pro match is a reasonably good line at lower breaking strains considering its strength to diameter. I tried out 2lb bs just to compare and didn't have the same problems as with the higher breaking strains.

So I consigned it to the cupboard. I've moved on to drennan double strength which I have found to be very good but less supple than ultima mono I've used. A bit more expensive but at least no worries!

I highly recommend trying this one.
