Must i get a pole?

Recommended Posts

How about a blowpipe? :)

It's quite possible that your catty may be to powerful! For maggots out to about 18 mtrs you want a very soft elastic. This will keep them in a prety tight group about 4ft wide.

I put the pole in a rest, fire the maggots at the float, lift the bait out and then lower it at the same rate as I expect the bait to sink, finally letting the bait settle on the bottom.

Hi John,

The way to fish with the waggler is simple, set your shooting pattern shirt button stlye so that you get a nice slow drop with the bait, cast out 5-6 yds past where you intend to fish, fire out your maggots and reel your float back into the baited area.

Keep the catty in the left hand and your ready to strike at any bites with the rod in your right hand. With practice you'll find it very easy.

Hey Poledark they must be some cattys you've got if they fire maggots 18 mtrs.I'd be using a whopper dropper for that distance :D:D

Hi kwaka, I put 18mtrs as I use mine to fire accurately to the end of a 14.5 mtr pole. It does fire well past but the maggots scatter.

The catty is the little Drennan one with the red elastic.

Tight elastics? queried the vicar.

My way of catching roach is liquidised bread made into balls and thrown out. I use a waggler with most of the shot at half depth and a small shot 8 inches from the bait - I use bread flake for larger roach and hemp or tares for smaller ones. This makes the bait fall through the water slowly and I fish just over depth. The cast is into the cloud of liquidised bread. 90% of bites are whilst the bait is falling through the water so be carefull. I find the the float settles slightly when the last shot puts tension on the float. This takes a few seconds, get used to the time and if it doesn't settle in the time you expect strike as you may have a decent roach on. You need to use a bread ball on each cast so make them small and practice this method it does work honest. It will also attract Rudd and Orfe.
