Local Bye Laws

Since the rod licence became national the Local Bye Laws are no longer printed on the back. You have to send of for them. They must still be in existance? (Please remember most of my time is spent abroad now)The fact that you are allowed up to 4 rods in the old Southern area but still only 2 in the Anglian area surely confirms this (or am I going senile!) If any one from any area has a copy of their (or any current) areas bye laws could they please Email me a copy?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Four rods in the Anglian region now. And what a disaster it's been as well!!

Phone 0845 933 3111 for your free copy. Be amazed at some of the loop-holes you'll find!

You could look at http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk

Tap in on the search facility Fisheries Bylaws and then go to Southern Region and hey presto! Interesting bit about the US Ghost ships there as well.

Another issue about these rules is the contradictions with rules from elsewhere. A prime example is that within the Anglian region I can troll under power outside the Broads area, but not within. The fisheries byelaws allow it, the navigation rules forbid, except under oar power.

Pete, in my part of East Anglia the four rod limit has proven of great use to specialist tench, bream and carp anglers. I have noted your concerns from the past re: pike anglers fishing four rods from a boat and not being able to maintain good observation and control. But should this effect ALL anglers? Better to let local fishery managers make thier own rules subject to local conditions, don't you think.

Unfortunatley on public waters there are no fishery managers Alan. I rather wish the four rod rule had been imposed just as the close season rules. In other words public rivers and the like remained with a close season and a two rod limit. Private and controlled fisheries could impose their own upper limits and close season.
