, spangled perch do tolerate saltwater even though spanglies are extremely common in the freshwater, further upstream.

 

Yes, up in the NT they survive the dry, when the creeks become a string of isolated pools, which must be high in salts, high in tannins, and low in oxygen. Tough little jaspers.

 

The reason why I went to 5" pilchards was to see if I could pick up a flathead, an eel or even a bull shark - have had bulls on the Ord but never on the Brisbane - all I got was forky cats not a lot bigger than the bait !
