It's now 4 40lb+ commons from Wingham in 4 days!

I almost don't believe it!

A new member's first fish from Wingham Carp Lake was a 42-12 common caught earlier today.

That makes 4 40lb+ commons in 4 days. And it looks like they're all different! That now makes at least 10, possibly 11, 40s in the Carp Lake.

There's only 2 fishing on 15 acres. I wonder what will happen at the weekend?

Already said how difficult it is to keep up with your 40lb plus fish from Wingham and now you do it again, that's got to be some fishery you run down there Steve

A big well done not just to the anglers concerned but also to everyone who works or helps out at Wingham

Congratulations Steve! You must be thrilled with the start to the season :-).

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys on the course fishing sydicate that it starts of like this when the fish wake up :-).

Although these are hugh carp and it's looking like you have a good chance to breka the 50lb barrier this season, they are still a way off the british record, do you think any of the fish will get close to this? I know fish of this size are generally freak fish but do you have any thoughts about how big they will end up?

I don't for one moment think we'll break the carp record. As you say record fish are freak fish, and the chances of having such a fish are minute. All I can do as a fishery manager is to go for the highest average size when fully grown.

Ultimately the Coarse Lake is likely to produce bigger carp purely as I've not allowed so much fishing there so far, let alone carp fishing. Fishing pressure, certainly when the fish are young, means that the fish don't grow so big. It was very much a minority view when I first started, but is become more and more accepted these days, especially by the fishery scientists.

There are fewer carp in the Coarse Lake and they're younger, but they're growing at a faster rate. Indeed, my money is on the Coarse Lake producing a 50lber before the Carp Lake, especially as after mid-July I'm allowing more carp fishing there. It's already done carp up to 45-08.

Now a record bream, that's a different matter. It might even go at the Forum Fish-In in a few weeks......

It goes to show how misleading some photos can be; the 47 looks like a 30 compared to the others!

Wonderful fish, though. The 41.06 is a beautiful and particularly distinctive specimen. Top marks to all involved.

It is deceptive isn't it? But that particular fish is very chunky. Additionally, as you can see by comparing the same fish caught by Bob MacGregor in the picture below on the same page, Andy is a big bloke.
