I have a guide taken from angling times last year which I laminated at work and keep in my box but :

I have found most recommended weights on pole floats are just a guide.

Water tension, amount of line, size/type of hook and bait will affect the weight needed to correctly shot the float.

For 99% of my rigs made up for bottom or near bottom fishing I use an olivette the same size or 0.1 of a gram less than shown on float with a few droppers.

For mid water or on the drop fishing I try and use style type weights which have the size and weight on the tub. These rigs are also slightly undershotted.

These type of weights have their density spread out and seem to drop slightly slower than split/micro shot.

I adjust ALL rigs when I set up and this way I only have to ADD a few weights, not take any off which can be fiddley.

I normally use tiny micro shot size 9 to 13 for this.

Different floats for different folks!
