When Dian & i went to get married there they couldn't find it so they wouldn't accept it as my fathers (deceased) occupation.

 

It just isn't the same having

Fathers Occupation "Maker of Timepieces" on your marriage certificate :(

My father was a staffordshire man and his trade before he joined the Army (in 1930s) was an horologist. I must get up to that area and check things out for family tree.

Contact the register of births,deaths & marriages in Gretna Green & explain to them what an horologist is.

Alan - You should think yourself lucky they didn't interpret it as "clockwatcher"
