Hi All. Have a question or two. Me and my mate are off to do a 2 day session at a local carp lake at the end of oct. Now in this lake they have a 30+ cat. What i have been wondering is what bait could i use to catch the cat, as dead baits are a no go. I have not done any cat fishing before. What i was wonderig was could i use halibut pellets or boilies or worm.

Any help much appr.

Thanks

It was the fish i tell you, they were talking to me !!!

yes just fish flavoured boilies will work but uprate the mono and definatly the hair if you use one ,most cats in a carp lake will have swiftly found that boilies are good eating and thrive on them.

although they dont have teeth as we imagine them their gums with abrade light hairs very quickly.

make sure you have a large enough net a good set of unhooking tools and a big unhooking mat.

you will be surprised how heavy (compared to lenght)these fish are ,a 42" net is probably the smallest you want and lift by the mesh

remember uprating the mono may mean also uprating the rod and reel unless you can absolutly trust them to perform correctly.

i would go for the worms first and foremost, a big ball of lobs popped up in any deep holes/areas. the only other thing i could reccommend is using some donkey choking pellets that have been glugged in fish oil. does the fisheries manager consider squid and liver as deadbaits? if so then problem solved.
