An Evening , a local pond and a float ?

Recommended Posts

The weed was cleared from my local pond/lake and had 5 tench in 4 hours from 5pm until 9pm.The biggest i weighed was 9lb 1oz. There is something to be said for the simple little local pond/ small lake at £5 a day.

Turn up with marmite sadwiches and a flask of tea and one float rod some worms and sweetcorn.

As i said 5 great fighting tench under the float and a few bits and bobs

I think that's what i came back to fishing for.

Have you got a good local pond/lake close by for an evenings fishing?

Dave ,you have just caught a post spawnwed 9 lb`er from a pond/small lake , how big were the others ? In my limited experience you are a major player , can you let us know what you are doing ? I have struggled all season . I know you have had several 20 + carp , lost a huge fish and had other tench to over 8 lb . I would love to see some photo`s , regards ,John.

p.s from your other posts I know you are a sharing angler.

Hi john

Again thank you on your praises about my fishing but please no more as i just see myself as an average angler at best. I have included a couple of links on U-tube of where sometimes i go. The 2nd one is just a few fish in the margins (i have just looked these up and quite shocked that keston was in there...LOL)

As one of the lads said it’s free fishing but there is usually a bailiff on site in case there is anything untoward but also he is a ranger. I always give him £5 as he is a good working guy and he has fished here for 30 odd years and knows all the little tiny hot spots. During the day its useless as you can see why with all the noise going on including them..LOL

I know there are 20lb+ pike in there well i have not got proof of one by photo but i make my own mind up and think there are which is why i think the Tench have got quite big over the years a bit like the coarse lake at Wingham where the balance is good and therefore gets the big fish getting bigger. It was a haven 20 years back (I know many of the mature anglers know of the place on here as i have heard them mention it). Norwood is also local and i believe holds big tench too although not fished it for 20 years. I believe Chesters fished it and a few others I must fish it and let you know how i get on.

I was quite excited about the 9lb fish...Whoops!...9lb 1oz as i thought it looked like a double so worth a photo but it wasn’t so i slipped it back in. I really don’t get this photograph thing. It seems that too many it’s like a trophy to show others to prove you have caught it because otherwise what’s a 9lb Tench of an ugly git holding it worth? It’s OK i think when you are a kid proving to the boys at school how clever you are but showing one at 52...Really?

Sorry to hear John you are losing Tench all the time. Are your hooks sharp as that’s usually one of the favourite reasons why? Also raking a swim makes a big difference for Tench. I remember Steve at Wingham doing so and in the night he had 2 Tench and a bloody big eel and lost a few more Tench so that’s a good tip for you at this time of year. I said did he have pictures of the eel not to believe the size of it as Steve’s word is good enough for me but just i like them and wanted to see what it looked like. Sadly he has arthritis so did not take one but i was a bit jealous as in that area i must have caught a 100 about 2lb and he pops up with one just short of 4lb but fair play to him.

I tell you John don’t come to me about how to catch big Eels as i am useless!!

PS..Glyn is the man to talk to about Tench he knows his stuff!

I did manage to catch a photo though as i definately thought this was worth it John of a damn jack pike that took my big tench as i played it. ....More money spent down the tackle shop!!

We have a great little pond just 2miles away (next village) its fantastic for a few hrs morning or evening, you can catch roach, Rudd and skimmers one a cast on maggot and also loads of tench and carp (up to 30lb apparently) that can be taken on corn :)

Apologies i mis read

I use either the Gardner Mugga or the Korda. Just make sure it's sharp and this lot usually end up so right out of the packet. I have sometimes used a hook sharpner that budgie sells. Very handy bit of kit.

I would reccommend if you can get to Wingham maybe next fish in you hook up with Glynn. He knows a trick or too to get a good Red eye :)
