Excel printing problem

Recommended Posts

I have an invoice form designed in Excel and using VLOOKUPS. The problem is the data does not print.

The saved portion of the file, headings, columns etc. all print, but not the imported VLOOKUP data or any data added to the cells.

Everything shows in print preview and if I print to PDF first then no problem.

A first I put it down to a computer that needing a good seeing to, but after a format of the hard drive it is still doing it.

Is this some setting within Excel that has set itself to hide the data from view. Print area is set and the print colour is set to automatic with a font defined.

I am at a loss to figure this out. Please, any suggestions?

If you can see the imported data on screen, what happens if you have only the data rather than the lookups?

Try a copy of the entire page then 'paste special' and use the option for Values & Number formats. Put it on the same page and then print the whole thing.

All data, even that typed in does not show in the body of the form when printed.

Just tried your suggestion, won't paste as some of the cells are merged and will only give me the option to paste 'values' or 'format' but not a combination, using Office 2000 Pro.

Perhaps it is in the printer setup, will have a go at that.

No that doesn't help.

Originally thought it might have been the corrupt OS as it did it before I formatted, but still does it after re-installing XP and the progs.

Thanks Newt

Mick - if you want to email me the form and a data sheet for the lookups to use, I'll be happy to see if I can figure out what might be happening. Probably best to use a compression app like winzip to crunch and wrap them though.

nvail(remove-this)@ctc.net and just delete out the (remove-this) part. It keeps my email address from being harvested by spybots that crawl the forums.

A further thought - have you tried printing this in black & white just in case your problem is with the colors?

Thanks Newt

It's a B&W Kiocera Laser printer, so don't think I can turn off the colour. :D

It worked not so long ago, possibly on my previous Laser printer (Panasonic) so unless the VLOOKUPS are corrupt it should be the same as it was when I wrote the file.

Zipped file on it's way for you to look at.

Appreciated

Got the file. Will have a good look tomorrow and let you know what I find.

That fooled me and I assumed you were using a color printer.

Sorry, didn't think of a colour printer when I added that snippet of information.

Just trying to give the full picture, just in case you thought that the colour in Excel was set to white or another colour that did not show on normal white copy paper.
