just found that Avg doesn't work in safe mode is this correct or is it me?

I think it's you. Or possibly it doesn't appear to work. I have just cleaned out a nasty one by running AVG while in safe mode. On rebooting, all was fine.See " If I can help somebody "

if I am in safe mode and click on avg the programme doesn't open,so cannot select scan is this what happens to you?

Could be different operating systems. Some have more stuff running in safe mode than others. What OS kendo?

os is xp home with zone alarm,adaware,spybot,spywareblaster.

Mine is 98 SE with all above, except spyware blaster.

kendo - I have XP loaded at home and am using AVG. I'll try to remember to start in safe mode and see how it does. I'll let you know.

 

Interesting though. If I'd had to guess, I'd have bet on XP being more likely to run it in safe mode than 98.

You should still be able to scan your drive in Safe Mode via Windows Explorer

 

Right Click on the drive you want to scan which should bring up the shell menu, then choose "Scan with AVG"

hi thanks for the suggestion I tried as you suggested but get this message AVG SHELL EXTENSION DRIVER (CORE)NOT FOUND WINERR=2 :confused:
