Dumb Ass Questions

Please bare with me on this folks.

I've just bought this laptop and was wondering how exactly do I connect to the internet using "wireless", and what's this infra red, WiFi and Firewire gobble-de-gook?

It is also not playing DVD's due to "not having a compatible driver". My desk top DVD software is a DELL product which isn't allowing me to download it on to the laptop, so is there a free product that can be recommended?

InfraRed - probably not a great deal of use to you. It is a close proximity means of transferring data. Used to be used with some laptops to allow printing to infrared equipped printers, could exchange information between mobiles and laptops etc.

FireWire - a cable interface, if you want to you can attach firewire accessoies to the firewire port - similar to USB.

WiFi wireless connectivity. To connect to the internet. You will need either a wireless router at home, or be in a wireless "hotspot" or somewhere with wireless internet access. The wireless connection then needs to have permission to access whatever netowk it is trying to contact.

For the purposes you told us you wanted the laptop for it sounds like the modem will be more use.
