River Beult Kent

Hi All,

Going to the Beult on saturday,my normal fishing is trotting through a swin of about 20yds long by 5 to 6 foot depth or cage feeder with liquidised bread and hook bait of whatever i have available.

This brings small winter fish of outstanding condition.

Looking to try something new any suggestions?

Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.

When I used to fish the Beult I too found legered lobworm an excellent method, not only for chub and perch but also for big roach. However, I found it better to fish upstream rather than down.

Other favourite methods included laying on and strettpegging. These tended to produce less but bigger fish than trotting. Having said that, trotting maggot was a lot of fun. When I fancied this style of fishing though I used to switch to the much easier Teise, where I can't ever remember blanking. I can't say the same about the Beult!

In view of the weather I would suggest chubbing. Worm or flake on a light ledger, and keep mobile. Not too much loose feed, just a few hook samples. Give each swim 15 - 20 mins then try elsewhere. River is low and clear so move quietly to avoid spooking the fish. You should get some perch on worm too.

Roaching will be difficult in the conditions but if you want to try use breadpunch on the float or pole, feeding a little liquidised bread. I've found this better than maggot in clear conditions.

Are you fishing the day ticket stretch or KAPS water?

I agree, lob worm for Chub / Perch, if the temperature rises you may be surprised by a decent Tench.

Good luck.

Medway

I was fishing that stretch with another AN contributor just before Christmas and can confirm that the legered Lobworm approach outlined by Steve Burke and others works.

Soupy caught chub just by the bridge below the weir where the sidestream comes in and I caught some nice perch to 2lb plus, further up in the big swim.

All I could get on flake and feedered liquidised bread was knocks from small stuff, though this may have changed since the cold snap. send me a PM and we will do a trip together sometime.

You know Barbel have come out by the big weir.

With the rivers low and clear at present you may find this article of mine helpful http://anglers-net.co.uk/authors/steve05.htm
