After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.

After a bit of searching I found this - www.seaspin.com which has an embryonic forum in english at the bottom: equally Mike Thrussle has an excellent piece on fishing in Gibraltar that might be of interest to those of you heading into the Med. although the quality of the fishing is probably not quite up to the standards in the straits. The guys on the forum seem really knowledgeable and have produced lots of videos about different types of fishing, including spinning from the shore on the Med islands.

Hope This Helps

Kieran's picked up that thread from a 'Stateside web site. But Nichola, the one that uses the nom de plume, Caranx - the latin name for the Jack family of fish - has his own web site, complete with English forums, that specialises in Top Water Popping and Deep Water Jigging. He lives in Madrid and, in all probability, has a number of contacts in the Balearics. Might well be worth posting to his web site, under popping? Whilst not the method for Barracuda you're likely to get a response.

This is his web site. That takes you to its home page, you can then easily navigate to the forums from there.

hi tony the leerfish is known here as a palometon.voracious they are too!

with regard to the barracuda,i am a member of the caranx forum, and posted a query regarding barracuda a day or so ago.

the replies were very informative ,especially one from a guy who has fished for them for between 30-40 years.

he said that there are at least 2 species, the traditional one" sphyraena sphyraena".which grows up to 3.5 kg and is very thin, this one is also rated for eating.

the other one" issphyraena barracuda,"is a fairly recent invader, which is the one found in tropical waters, and can reach 50kg.there have only been small specimens of this type caught so far.

they are not so good eating apparently.the spread of the tropical barracuda is put down to global warming by many here.il see if i can winkle some good methods out of them!! :D

best wishes dave.

Hi

Although this is written by a fly fisherman working off the slat flats around florida, I reckon it has to be worth a read. Some interesting tactics that I am sure can be utilised by lure anglers...

A bright color tube lure (green/red) in my opinion is the best lure for barracuda. I am not sure what the lure is trying to mimic in appearance, but always seems to provoke a strike response from the "Bahamian Kingfish"
