Important, New Laws in Scotland

Wow!!! That is some serious stuff.

You probably want to post this on the Sea Angling section as well. I know it only affects fresh water anglers but lots of our northern sea anglers do some of both but rarely look in this section of the forum.

This is an extremely serious issue and all anglers, wheter they use livebait or not, should take a look at this link and think about the future consequences of any inaction on their behalf.

The link to the SFCA response give some good, clearly laid out arguments and I would urge everyone here to look at them.

To my mind, if we start conceding 'little' bits of angling now, we may as well take up golf. This is the way those opposed to our sport work - nibble away at the edges and divide those of us within it.

Read the report as an angler and, if you feel strongly enough, please respond.

Anyone have an idea why the livebaiting restriction was included?

I'll have to have a deeper read into it, Newt, but the 'reason' often stated is to stop disease spreading.

The real reason is usually because many of the public have been brainwashed over here and think we should use Nemo to catch more Nemos.

Trouble is, many anglers also fuel their fire by agreeing. That's their right, but I do question why they find angler per se okay, in that case.

Hi Elton

Thanks for your post, as you say there is a lot of damage that could be done to our sport if any of these new laws go against us.

One of the main reasons for wanting livebaits banned is the spread of non indiginous species, there are hardcore elements that would like all non indiginous species removed from Scotland ! it will never happen but I bet they will be doing as much as possible to stop any future stocking etc

Cheers

Saul

I expect someone will organise a march!

What is the view of the RSPCA, I wonder!

The major reason given for the ban is to stop the introduction of non-native species to waters in Scotland.

I guess this is based on the "false science" that argues that the ruffe has been introduced to Loch Lomond as a result of pike anglers discarding live bait.

As a disabled person, I would be interested to hear the justification of the ban on ROD RESTS?? My disability wouldn't allow me to hold the rod all the time. I think that may clash with the DDA!!
