Hello David W

I know what you mean, you should tell them, I do, it's hard enough to get the British public to eat fresh fish with out tring to sell them that exspensive crap.

I fish to live and live to fish.

Hello David W

Hi Wurzel,

The worst of it all was that people were buying the fish, I've thrown out bait that was better.

There was Bass that must have been farmed because they were so small (looked well under size) that were really dry, their eyes were really sunk in, looked horrid.

I don't know how they get away with selling this stuff.

Thats one of the reasons I take a few home with me for my mum, she loves fish but wont buy it from the shops, not that stuff anyway.

I've been to Scrabster... and I want to go back!!!

Hello Stavey

Wurzel if you and the other fishermen in your area proved and showed you could use more sustainable and selective gear! like those pots i was on about on the other thread, you could maybe? be given a marine stewardship

I don't think those guys at Hastings use those pots you were on about.

I already do use selective gear.

So are you suggesting all fishermen in the UK except those from Hastings stop fishing immediately ?

No! on the contrary wurzel, i wise mearly suggesting a solution to your many impending problems as you see it

i cant help feeling that you let your old stubborn values cloud your cunning oppertunism inside you wurzel, afterall you were the one to point out the benefits that could be obtained from a marine stewardship in the first place, and as for calling me a eco hippy well if that equates to being an ordinary tax paying sea angler who cares about his hobby and wants to continue to enjoy his hard earnt rights to do so in the future, then i am honoured to except such a label.

I don't like you on this forum any more wurzel. You are a right pain in the arse. You are not an angler, you are a commercial fisherman out to disrupt our forum.

You should be banned. You have nothing to give to this forum.

If I'm in a pub and someone asks me who I work for and I say the Highways Agency I'm usualy treated like an Estate Agent :( or worse still a social worker ! ;) but here Wurzel gets all the stick! So for what its worth I think he can stay!!! I dont agree with much of what he says but he is entitled to have his opinion, might be better to be a little diplomatic tho!

Wurzel I wasnt aware that you sold Marlin or Tuna to Asda?! ;) Selling fish from sustainable (assuming your assumptions are correct) stocks to independent retailers isnt a problem, and anyway as has been said the seafood in supermarkets in rubbish and you shouldnt have anything to do with them. :schmoll:

Dan

PS You dont have to be an eco hippy to care about our environment or to be a member of Greenpeace. Who stopped the Whaling? let me think?.......... or do you think Whaling was sustainable before the moratorium?!

There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot!

Its nice here! http://www.twfcorfu.com

Some of Wurzels ideas are to me quite mad, Infact I dont think he believes half of what he says, just feels he should defend his industry. You cant blame him for that. At least the lad isnt rude and I dont really think he would be if you approached him about sustainable fishing either. He is patient. I know this as he has not swarn at me once and I have given him as much jip as anyone here. Im sorry I can't say that about a lot of his colleagues.

I think wurzel shows great restraint in putting up with some of the rubbish thrown at him on here.

Most of his thoughts, coming from many years experience, I have found interesting.

I also accept and respect, that other people may have opinions different from mine, which seems a strange concept for some Forum members to grasp.

wurzel Rules OK.

Cranfield, i am sure wurzel is big and ugly enough to look after himself, he loves all the attention he gets whether you consider other peoples opinions rubbish towards him or not, otherwise he would of left this forum long ago, no wurzel is here for a reason alright and staying put and i dont think its just to fight the commercials corner either, maybe he thinks he can keep an eye on things incase he may have to change options later, and if that has to happen then he may be able to get his foot in a door or two?

harassement from a bunch of ill informed eco hippys and Stavey.

I did not say you were one, just going along with them.

for what it's worth I can go along with sustainable fishing methods, I don't think it's should be up to green peace or anglers to decide what is and what is not sustainable. What has stopping me catching soles or skate got to do with you careing about your sport? ASDA could have had tons of just 36 cm wild bass on their fish counter and green pease would have said nothing about it.

Sorry to hear that, of cause I'm a right pain in the arse . I could probably out angle you any day. I am a commercial fisherman but I am not out to disrupt your forum, I will put the commercial point off view on threads that include commercial activitys, you don't have to agree, but then nor do I have to agree to anglers views.
