Want to give it a go

Hi all, I've got a Warrior 165 which is fine for fishing at the weekends but for those on the spur of the moment trips midweek after work a kayak would be more suitable and hopefully as much fun, I haven't done it before so would like something very stable, I found a place in Newhaven that is listing an Ocean Kayak Drifter for £419 + del would this be suitable for a newbie??

Drifter would be OK but for that sort of money there are other options depending on requirements. Best thing is to go see. Decide on budget, storage, roof carrying capacity, how far you intend to paddle, your own size etc. Loads of old threads on here ref buying.

 

See if you can try one first and most of all think safety. If you have Warrior you probably dont need it stressing but PFD, Comms (mobile/VHF) if you havent fished before from a Yak find a partner for initial trips.

Buying is about personal choice and suitability dont worry to much about stability once you have been on one for a few minutes you will be fine. Those that initialy feel very stable can feel like a barge on the second trip.

 

They tend to require lots of effort and can be pretty slow on the water. Hopefully you can arrange a trip with a couple of forum members, try before you buy etc.
