Probably is the same species Mike. The largest cod ever recorded (commercially caught) was off the Grand Banks and weighed in at a whopping 212lb, exact same species. The IGFA all tackle record came from Isle of Shoals, New Hampshire USA (Gadhus morhua) in 1969 and weighed in at 98lb 12 oz. :):)

Yep same one : Gadus morhua the Atlantic cod range from the north and eastern coast of North America, around the southern tip of Greenland across the north Atlantic to the waters around Iceland, the Faroes, the North Sea and the Barents Sea. It is found all around the British coast, reaching south to the Bay of Biscay

This is what I also found on a search, albeit by the WWF. http://www.worldwildlife.org/news/displayPR.cfm?prID=111

Should soon be able to buy cod with a Marine Stewardship Council label denoting that it comes from a sustainable fishery.

I only kept 10 which is the limit per man-two at 31 pounds (which I caught at one time one on a Lava Pirk and the other on a matt fly above the Lava Pirk, one 30 pounds, one 26 pounds and 6 others from 10 to 12 pounds.
