When I was in Australia in the late 70s, they fished for shark from the beach, bait a large whole fish cast out now here's the funny bit.....well not for the dog, they would put some rope on a dog and throw a stick out and the dog would go in the water to retrieve the stick, it so happens that the dog paddling around makes the same noise as a wounded fish as soon as they see a sharks fin they pull the dog in very quickly, I don't know how many dogs were lost in this way

The other thing I saw while up in Darwin, there was a jetty about 150 yards out and I saw a Land Rover drive to the end, I could not see what he was doing at the front of the car, some time later I saw a thick rope coming from the Land Rover and he was reversing, the next thing there was a shark about 6 ft long hanging from the jetty, what they use it for was to bait for crab and lobster pots
