Kids carp rods

A lure rod rated to about 50 or 60 grams max. casting weight would probably fit the bill. Most tackle shops should have a suitable selection.

Another good choice might be the Greys Stalker at either 7 feet or 9 feet. I have the nine footers on my boat , but I suspect the seven footer might be not only a good choice for now, but later when he's big enough for a full size rod, the Stalker will still be a good choice for fiddling around trees and shrubbery.

Perhaps I am a bit old fashioned, but should a lad of FIVE be going straight into Carp fishing..!

I would have though that general fishing would be the way to start, so that he can get an appreciation of all our other wonderful species, Roach Tench, Perch etc.

Thereby learning more watercraft and appreciation for all things angling, an Apprentiship if you like.

Some of my best fishing memories are as a child fishing with my dad catching all sorts, I dont think that I would have loved Angling so much if i spent most sessions blanking for carp.

Just a thought..!!!

Hi Zaphod,

Yes I agree with you entirely, my sons been catching small silver fish on the float for a year and a half now!! I've been taking him to a local match lake that holds everything (including carp to 10lbs), In the course of catching species he's inevitably hooked a few carp and lost them (all apart from one).

Although he'll have a decent carp rod I'll make sure he still has a good grounding in basic fishing/watercraft.
