Soaking "Overnight" Will NOT do..... Peanuts need a MINIMUM of 24 hours soaking, then bring to boil and simmer for 20-30 minutes. They can be very harmful to the fish if not prepared properly. This is why they are banned in the majority of waters....

Only difference between the 40's and 50's is the size of the spool, there is no descernable weight difference either. Both are about the same weight/size of a Shimano GTE 6010.

Also Vaseline, I always have some in my tackle box (thats how the rumour started... ) And lip balm (unscented) as it comes in a nice handy container. Although you will have to re-apply it every few casts. Or you could buy the fox line stuff at thrice the price..!!!

Well, you will have to catch it again, this time with some bigger scales as you would not be able to claim the record without verification of the weight. Having said that, it would be difficult to estimate from a photo especially as it is at an angle etc. A great capture, get out there and do it again lad What you should have done, is cut the fish in half, weigh the two halves and add together, bit of superglue...job done

Air drying boilies will harden them up, try something like "tutti frutie", dunno why but Mr & Mrs Tinca seem to like the fruity baits at a lot of the waters in my area. Maybe something radical like breadflake may be worth a try, as I cant imaging the crayfish really going for it. Good luck, berluddy crayfish are a PITA mate and no error.

Zenith, There is an article on this site re; surface fishing; http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/Carp-Fishing-A...nce_Saloon.html You say that they are "topping" . that does not necessarily mean that they are feeeding of the top. Get some Pedigree chum mixers (pet food section of supermarket), then rinse them under a top in a collander for a min' or two, then put them in a sealable bag with plenty of air in them and leave over night. This will let them absorb the water and expand circa 100% and soften. Then when you are down there try feeding a bit in and see if they will take off the top. If they are feeding on the top, then give it a go. If you can get them off the top it is the best way ever, believe me. P.S.
