Grass carp

Last night I turned up with my Father in Law for an evenings Tenching on the botton pool at Ladywood.

On arrival we found that just about every carp in the pool on the top sunbathing.

I have fished here for ten odd years and never realised just how many carp are in the pool.

There were Ghosties, grass, common and mirrors of all shapes and sizes.

To cut a story short for over an hour I walked and stalked without a rod trying to interest them with freebies.

Then a few started taking tiny bits of crust very gently off the top and only if the rudd were having a go!

I set up my super specialist with 5lb line straight through (thought I had put on the 8lb spool but didnt realise until after my cast) to a size 8 drennan super specialist with a tiny piece of freelined crust.

This was flicked as far as I could get it, approx 12 foot from bank (I was sitting well back from the edge in camo). It took an age as fish swam under and around my crust until it disappered without so much as a slurp or swirl, it just disappered in an instant.

I struck and after a battle under the rod tip and one rip roaring 30meter run I landed an 8lb Grass carp.

I am still well chuffed as this is only my 2nd ever grassy.

Afterwards I put on a float and took several 5lb Tench to end a very satisfiying short session.

I am in the process of buying a digital camera, I did have a 35mm camera with me and found to my horror I had not put in a new film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never been a photo fanatic and only started taking a few fish shots last year.
