walkie talkie/2way radios

I use a Motorola in an Aquapac strapped to my arm, works well, only problem is her indoors is able to nag from the beach :D

2 ways are great for chatting to each other on the water, but don't rely on it for safety, they are very low power, line of sight only, paddle around some cliffs, loose contact.

Have seen some Oregon ones that are waterproof in the Nauticalia Summer Catalogue

don't know what the quality is like.

I'd agree with SM on the use of an Aquapac and mobile, although to reiterate not as your safety solution.

They're a great, cheap solution - but you will need to periodically check their integrity.

I bought a couple of those waterproof oregon walkie talkies at the boat show. They worked very well during the two quick conversations that i had on them, before the spray from a series of waves over the bow ended its short life.I think they were made from the same material that they make teabags from.

However having said that i will still be replacing it with the same make as we were impressed with the range and clarity of the transmission. An Aquapac is essential for this type of radio as i have found out.

ill have a look at them then. its not for saftey really, just for contact on the water.

while im drifting and plugging round the reefs here in guernsey, my wife likes to paddle off!! (better than her scaring off the fish of course!) and dont wanna have to shout to her and spook fish. plus she often paddles on a bit and keeps her eyes open for bass (or anything else!) means she can let me know when she sees some and im still plugging away at an area with no fish in (as usual!!)
