Pole Fishing Problems

Hi...Im a bit stumped here..I fished with a pole for the first time in a few years last week in a friendly match and hooked 7 carp in the 3-9 lb bracket but all pulled out after 15 or so seconds..This has never happened befor,any ideas?...I was fishing 16 elastic.14 hook with soft hook pellets as bait...Many thanks.

Robbie, it sounds like you were using too strong an elastic and ''bumped'' the fish off.

For smaller fish use a lighter elastic, perhaps a number 8.

You could also try sharpening your hooks, obvious I know but you would be amazed how quickly a hook can dull its point and not penetrate properly on a strike.

Finally, striking... try a gentle but definite lift into a bite, avoid jerky movements.
