Chub or Dace?

I didn't catch these so I couldnt check the anal fin but today upstream of the bridge (and out of rods reach) there was a shoal of surface feeding fish around 10' in length.

 

They clearly had a black border to the tail fin.

 

Young chub or large Dace?

Not sure if you meant to post a picture or not but from your description of the black edged fins I'd say you were looking at a shoal of chub. From the size of the fish you give I'd definatly say chub as any dace pushing 10in would be nearing record size and as such would be in groups of a few fish not shoals

i'd go for a shoal of imature chub over a shoal of large dace,as a bunch of large dace is a rarer occorance than a shoal of chub

You want to have a look around where the Endrick runs into Loch Lomond on a nice sunny day!
