kayak for beginner

DunkerT

Recommended Posts

hello,

I've not got much experience of kayaking and would love to have a go after seeing someone paddling about the coast of gower catching tons of fish, whilst I stood on the rocks catching nothing. I have looked up a few kayaks on the internet but have found the angling kayaks are extremely expensive. I was firstly wondering what kayak people would suggest for a beginner like myself, and secondly if anyone knows where I could pick up a last season edition or second hand kayak that may turn out cheaper for me, as around £450 without paddles or hatches or anything is a lot of money.

Thanks very much

Tom

Hi DunkerT, welcome to the forum, if money is tight you might be lucky and find one of the lads here selling their kayak, it only happens occassionally, but we have had a few in the last month as people upgrade to newer or bigger models.

Alternatively keep your eye out for a hire centre they may sell of their kayaks at the end of the season.

Hey.

I'm based in the Gower, Burry port, loughor area too, I got my Tarpon 140 from White Water consultancy just outside Carmarthen. They are very helpful and have a huge range of gear, right through the range of related stuff. I bought a used one from them, that had a few minor scratches. Give them a ring, number below.

hello,

Thanks Kennison, I went along to WWC today actually, they were very helpful and suggested a 'jazz' kayak for me, which with all the extras to go fishing aswell, would come to £400 brand new. The person at WWC suggested this would be a good kayak as I could play in the waves aswell as having a tour round the coast doing a spot of fishing. However, he didn't say anything about second hand kayaks so I may ring tomorrow to see what he has.

Speciman, how much would you be looking for for your caper, cash, if I came to pick it up. Is there a price you would be happy to accept and keep the kayak off ebay? A second hand one would be ideal as the price of the new proper fishing kayaks was over £500 kitted out.

Thanks very much,

Tom

Hi Tom

I won't be able to send you a private message here until you have made 15 posts I think.

Can you send me an email to mail@georgebush.com :D

I'll remove my email address from this post once we've made contact so I don't get more spam.

Just suffered a similar emotionally traumatic experience. Got a skip in to do the annual tidy up. The first thing I had to put in was "Yarak the original". The first half fitted perfectly but to rub salt in my heaving wound I had to take the chainsaw to the big half to make it fit. :schmoll:

Who am i kidding there is somthing oddly satisfying about weilding a chainsaw

Fished since 2003, the rest of my life I just wasted.
