found a dead crayfish today in the kennet well into the town (reading) is that bad can someone tell me more about these things only its the first i have seen this far ?

Signal crayfish have been in the Kennet for nearly 20 years at least - I caught my 1st one around 88/89 deadbaiting for Pike at Padworth - the whole river system (Thames included)is now completely infested with them. To give you an idea how may there are - I was speaking to a guy who traps them in the Newbury area. He does catch returns for the EA and from a single mile long stretch at Hambridge he has trapped over 110 000 in a little over 3 years (and he only traps April - Sep) - that's over 5 tonnes of signals.
