which PFD?

hi lads,

Ive posted on the coarse forum and have been put onto you guys for info, but basically i was wondering about the difference between the gas life jackets and foam buoyancy aids, with a view to reservoir boating and possibly offshore angling. Which would be better if any?

Jan & I use the auto-inflating ones zedhead and love them. Nothing to really notice when wearing but if you fall in the water, plenty of flotation and designed to have you with head out of the water even if you are unconscious.

 

Our first ones survived 4 years of regular use with only a precautionary change of gas canisters after 2 years and we will be getting new ones later this week because the old ones are getting a little 'ratty' looking although they would probably work fine.

 

I was worried at first that a hard rain or spray would cause them to inflate but that did not ever happen. We paid the little extra money for the auto-inflating ones since I do not want to worry about pulling a lanyard if things go all pear shaped and I'm not really conscious.
