Bite alarms

I need to know if the bite alarms that attach to your rod are any good or not i have had a look on www.dragoncarpdirect.com

and they are going for £4.99 so i was just wondering if anyone knows if they are good or not

I had a similar one for a looksee - I struggled with the line catching it on the cast, and it was bloody annoying. If you remove it for the purposes of casting then you defeat the point of using it, and if you mount it so close to the reel that it cannot catch the line as it comes off the spool then drop offs become harder to pickup.

 

You can buy a budget pod or rest mounted model for £8 these days and if you are not looking to spend a fortune on one they (in my reckoning) are a better buy.

Thanks alot but i am scared that the rod will be taken in but the alarm because it happens to people on here regularlt so do you know if there is anyway i can stop that ???

Buy a float rod,use a float,hold the rod,sit there and watch the float.

 

Catch a few thousand fish like this then try moving on to some thing a bit more specialised.You will be amazed at how much easier it is to catch big fish once you can catch small fish. :(
