Lip Gripper

Theirs is good as is Boca (pretty much the oldest one on the market I think).

If you look on the coarse section and the trip reports by Vagabond from his recent trip fishing the Amazon, you will see quite a few photos of toothy fish being held with a similar gadget.

I have the Berkeley and the X-Tools lip grips, the X-tools gets the most use only because it has a built in digital scale, wouldn't want to weight a large fish with it though, better off with a normal set of scales such as Little Sampson's, which are extremely accurate.

If you only fish in UK waters, there is very little point to having a lip grip, just fish barbless and hold the fish by the hook shank if fishing catch and release.

If you are going to get one - get the BOGA GRIP. It IS more expensive, but it has a built in weighing scale (2 available - 15lbs and 30lbs, same price).

We used them on our Peacock Bass trip up the Amazon - absolutely brilliant. You get what you pay for. The scale on the BOGA is certified, and if we had caught a reord Peacock weighed on the Boga it would have been ratified - Don had them all certified before each season. Well built and work perfectly. Others are not as precision built - but probably work.
