PC expansion slots

I'm a bit of a PC dope, so forgive the stupid question:

I went to plug in a video card to my PC, but all the expansion bays were taken up by modem, sound and TV cards

Is there any easy way round this? New motherboard or is there some other (simple) piece of kit that could sort this, like a combined video/sound card?

cheers all

Hi Glen

do you use the modem, chances are if your on broadband you dont, and asuming the card is PCI (thats the white slots on the motherboard) take it out and replace it with your card and you should be fine, if its AGP the brown slot above the others, chuck it in there, im presuming you have been using the onboard graphics up to now.

Hi G-C, thanks. Yep it didnt occur to me we switched to broadband during the life of this PC. I'll give that a try.

I have indeed been using inbuilt graphics but since getting Flight-Sim they've been a bit sickly :)

Should add that I've been a bit weird too, horizons keep wobbling and I try to walk in nice gentle curves (I suspect you need to have tried a flight sim to appreciate how it makes yer brain go a bit wobbly ;) )

if your buying a graphics card check what interface it uses AGP or PCI express and make sure what your motherboard uses, unfortunately AGP cards are old fashioned now and more expensive than their PCI brothers.either way it wont interfere with your existing stuff as they use a dedicated slot.

Wise words, chesters, wise words. One day I'll learn to ask before jumping in both feet.

Wouldn't you just know that the card is AGP and I only have PCI slots.

Just seeing if the geezer will exchange it

infact there are four Chesters, PCI(wich Glenn has) PCI EXPRESS(from x1-x16 though i think 1 is used for modems), and AGP
