Scale calibration

Recommended Posts

Last time I got them done, a few years ago, the Weights & Measures office at the council did it for free. Now they tell me they don't do them any more.

I've seen a few private companies offering it but costing around £40 - any cheaper suggestions?

Buy a weight ,weigh it on a scale that is accurate and adjust yours to what it weighs in reality?

..... and if you need acces to known-accurate scales for the purpose suggested by Chesters, try the Post Office - thiers are calibrated regularly to be as accurate as possible.

Yes but I think it's good to have them officially checked as well. I'm in Ireland now and the Record Fish committee requires all claims either for records or specimens are fish weighed on scales certified annually.

Used to be free until about 3 years ago here. Now €50 per scale. Eye-watering...

Seems simple Jim - if you genuinely think you're in with a realistic chance of a record-breaker, pay for the calibration, otherwise is it not a bit of a waste of time and money?

Well I guess I'm like most anglers who dare to dream almost every time they put a line in the water ;-)

So yes I like to get em checked but balk at paying €100 for my two sets when before it was completely free.
