Prefered Feeder set up (Hooklength)

Recommended Posts

I've been using the cage feeder for my Carp fishing and have been doing quite well, but I could do better. I've been setting it up with the cage feeder running loose on the mainline, a bullet bead protecting the swival and a 12 inch hooklength.

The issue I have is that I've seen so many different sizes of hooklength, with some at only 6 inches and some at what looks like 2 feet and I was wondering which is the better length?

2 to 3 inches for me (hanging loose), and I usually use the set-up as semi-fixed, rather than 'running'. I've even used a 1 inch hooklink popped-up straight off the feeder with good results too.

I've heard the argument that the feeder <being so close to the eye's of the carp when 'playing'> can/will damage the eyes/face of the carp, but I've never seen any damage.

Take care,

Garth.

Ditto on that one, seems you can buy various lengths in the tackle shops.

I think the idea is start out at 11/12 inches and then work down to whatever is working best on the day.

I've got a rig box made up of hook lengths from 11 inches down to 4 inches.
