Herne Bay today

Me and the lad chucked the kayaks into the sea today. Drift fished one rod each for 4 hours half a mile offshore.

Wind West force 3 to 4, sea quite bumpy at times due to the shallows at Herne Bay. Unfortunately not a bite. Nice to get out though.

My man in Herne Bay told me not to bother fishing there with tides under 5 mtrs , he was born bred there and fishes when tide and weather allows off he's boat, was gonna give it a go Sunday due to the SW's but on his advice and Mikes experience , were goin elswhere.

Well, a lot of Bass move through to the Swale Estuary, Iv'e caught 5 pounders there. Thornbacks at Herne Bay too, stingray at Reculver from the beach, some big ones. It's just that the fishing is poor everywhere here at the monent.

During the Herne Bay boat festival last year, some big double figure Bass were caught.

If the wind dies down, I will try Hythe to Sandgate possibly on Tuesday. Might be ok after all the onshore winds there.

Drift about with a big mackerel bait, you never know.

After the dreadful weather, it was good just to get afloat.

A local told me that the spit between Herne Bay and Whitstable is good for drifting over for Bass. Might give it a go on Tuesday, weather permitting, or Hythe, can't make my mind up yet.

I used to fish off Reculver when I had bigger boats in the past, used to be very good.

I sat down with my mate today, and he showed me some likely looking spots on google earth , off Herne Bay and Recuvler, plus he gave me some transits, for a couple of marks, seems promising. He was out yesterday on his boat , he had skate to 11 1/2lb , smuts to 15lb, bass to 6lb, and four mackies, unfortunatly he was 8 miles off.
