crab traps

How would you make a crab trap, looking to place some crab traps at some low tide marks so i can get some free live bait.

Thinking of using plastic tubing to do thisand weighting one end with stones,is this the right way to do this?

Most people near me use plastic guttering. Cut into lengths about a foot or so long and push into the sand (mud) so about three or four inches are left sticking out.

Make them about 2 foot maybe a bit more. Shove them in at 45 degree angle about a foot. Lift up to 90 degrees and scoop out the sand or mud making quite a deep hole then put the gutterung back to 45 dgrees or even closer to flat. Also worth a go is where there are walls, piling, etc dig a hole against the wall and stand a tile in it upright against the wall - the carb will go behind it in the hole, these work better if tight to the wall with just a gap big enough for the crab to squeeze into.

Tires are also useful

Please be carefull where you set your traps mate an 18inch hole would be eough to put a nippers head under the water and stay clear of luancihng areas unless you want a load of boaties on your case

I have found in the past most of the traps I set are raided before I get to them remember that its only mannors that stop poeple from Nicking your peelers and some poeple dont have any? I can be fustrateing to say the least I find being first on the beach Crack of dawn Mid week with my bucket and waders is the most productive way to gather peelers and fun Too!
