well bit the bullet and bought the canon 400D

seems nice though as hellbelly mentioned i think i'll get the battery grip as well now as i have large hands and when i hold it i have a spare pinky hanging off the bottom of the camera.

now, just need to get the manual out and study it carefully

got it from jessops, tried to get the interest free credit but apparently the credit company don't like self employed people, because i never take things out on the drip i don't have a credit history.

i lost my patience and stuck it on my visa

i'll post a couple of my first pics when i get something worth posting

thanks for the help

Happy Dude - have hours of fun with that beauty of a camera! I went from P&S to DSLR - it's addictive. A steepish learning curve to start with, but it will get your creative juices going.

Your next problem will be...

LENS LUST

Hope you got a bit to spare on your credit card mate. And welcome to the most expensive and most satisfying hobby I know... :)

Look forward to seeing your first pics with your trusty 400D. Don't forget to throw a couple in the challenge - Contour.

Good luck with it all. There's some very knowledgeable people on here who have been very willing to help me and others out. I'm very fresh at all of this DSLR lark, but if I can help answer any queries, shout.

Westie.

Have a look here. Cheapest place I've found for memory cards on the web so far without having to bid for them.

I got a 2 gig and a 4 gig card both off e-bay. The 2gig card is the real deal but the 4 gig crad is fake. I got it real cheap but its fake. The guy admitted it and offered a refund. There was some words and end result, I have money back and the card. It works fine, holds what it should but its not a sandisk. Just beware is all. Cant think how i would have got by with little memory. When I go to a party or on a fishing trip I can almost fill both cards (mind you, shooting RAW at 9MB per pic).

OH, best lens for money is by far a nifty fifty. Thats a 50mm 1.8F prime lens. Really good in loe light (F1.8) and great for getting that shallow DOF look (again F1.8). And its only about $110 (aust), that'd be about 20 pence your money hahaha. Awesome little lens.
