Cyprus mullet hell - please help!

For a very long time I've been trying to catch a decent mullet in Cyprus. I know they are there, I've seen huge shoals of 2lb.+ fish, but I just can't seem to connect. The biggest obstacle is baitfish in the water. Any remotely soft bait will be shredded in seconds by inch long mullet, gobies and small bream. Feeding them off isn't option either as there are literally millions in the harbours that I fish. As if mullet weren't hard enough, this obstacle seems to make them uncatchable.

 

Any thoughts?

Could try bacon rind or steak!? Used both to good effect in Gib whilst after the big bream(Gilthead) and the mullet too!!

Or how about fake sweetcorn?? seems to do ok here. Don't know much about it as yet, but you could ask on the coarse board they would know.

Try using a cigarette filter as bait.

Or perhaps some of the new synthetic bread from Partridge (or Enterprise Tackle)? It's quite rubbery, floats and IS tiddler proof

 

Mix up a bit of bread slop and dip your fake stuff in it for a few seconds, it takes up some of the liquid and smells real.
