Anchor weight?

Recommended Posts

2.5kg may be a bit heavy and those prices seem a bit steep.

Try the lighter 0.75kg anchor as its good enough if there are no major flows.

Less weight to carry and haul up at the end of the day.

do you know a good online chandlers as our local one really does not cater for kayaks.

Here you go:-

http://www.marinestore.co.uk

Go to Anchors Chain etc and look under grapnel anchors and the 0.7 Kg one is at the top of the list. I cannot seem to provide a direct link to that page as I had intended but I am sure this will get you there.

Try this one too, good for the anchor trolley components.

Hope this helps.

ah now i see, does it not make the boat unstable if you are using the side to anchor from though, i can see it slid forward but still a good distance from the bow?

the only time it sits sideways into the tide is when retreiving the anchor to stop this i find stetching my foot as far forward as possible then pulling with the rope resting on the top off my foot helps keep straight in the tide

maybe a silly suggestions but wouldn't buoying up the anchor be safer or is the speed of a kayak too slow for this method?

I'm certainly no expert on anchor technique but I'd say trying to anchor side on or from the middle of the yak would be a very bad idea. If you were hit by a wave or picked up by a swell you would tip over really quick.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though :)
