i am in the process of fixing my sounder . i did not want to put any more holes , so i intend to pass the cable up through the compact round flushmount i have fitted in the front drink holder on my prowler 13 . i tend not to use it as a holder so i wish to fill around the cable with a filler . would sikaflex 291 be ok . would it cure ok

cheers Richi ,i also have a idea i used before on a boat for protecting the finder plug ,using a 35mm film case .drilled through the lid and sealed. when not in use film case put over plug snapped together . then coiled in cup holder.

Sikaflex is a polysulphide adhesive, not a sealant. To quote a boatbuilding book I read recently - " Be careful using this sort of sealant - if you ever have to take apart the two things you stuck together with it then the odds are that one or both of the pieces will break - and that includes fibreglass!!"

I have a frend who had to remove a broken skin fitting that was bedded in sikaflex - he said it was an absolute nightmare to do.

Having said all that, it's brilliant to stick things together with, but it gets everywhere so be careful!
