Two Hook Rigs

Severn Wolf

Recommended Posts

I`ve been fishing for some stillwater roach recently and keep hearing guys mentioning two hook rigs. I know in years gone by that the old Severn Trent board allowed their use but have they been outlawed yet?

It seems a good idea (used with sense) to cover the options when fishing for finicky fish.

Does anyone know the legalities of this method?

SW,it used to vary from area to area (a bit like the max rod limit) but Ive no idea of the ruling EA on the subject and club rules will still obviously vary.Hope some one can tell us.

Used to be very much the thing in bream fishing with northern match anglers and we did use them at Queenford for big bream.Roach wise Ive no experience of them but remember quite a few of the guys using them at Tring when after the big roach.Used very short hook lengths with them.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Of course, I forgot about the bream guys using them!

Just wondering, how do they go about setting them up? I don`t like the idea of waterknotting the hooklengths to the mainline (be a pain to change if any of them kink or get scraped) so was considering little rings tied into the mainline. Another option I guess would be small loops in the mainline but again, this will be weakening the set-up.

SW the ones we used at Queensford used Drennan ledger beads so that both hook lengths were free running on the take. Cant do a diagram for you as Ive no scanner here in London. The roach guys used fixed hook lengths.Only "Northern bream match" style rigs Ive seen were indeed made up with four turn water knots.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Lovely stuff, cheers Budgie!

Thats a much safer looking rig than the one I tied last night!

Just thought I'd post this link. It's where Budgies diagram came from originally and it is well worth looking at the entire document for more good advice.

Edit. oops, I didn't realise the whole document was in budgies link.
