Help needed with divx2 file

Had this from my daughter today, she know i'm not techy savvy but she also know i subscribe to this forum (see red line )

 

 

 

I am sorting out pics and movies for my digital photo frame - i have set them up as a mpeg2 movie which plays both the pics and movies in a slide show but it takes up heaps and heaps of space - I have read that divx files are a lot smaller but in the book it says it will only play divx2 - i have tried divx and it doesn't even recognise it's there but I can't find anything at all on divx2

have googled divx2 but doesn't come up with much good - the only one site that said i could download divx2 was a porn site not too keen on registering there just to get a divx2.

 

thought that some clever person on that fishing site might know what divx2 is

 

it's playing the mpeg2 no worries all i want to do is make the files smaller and from what i can tell divx2 is the way to do that

Hi Ian, Daughter says the following.

 

It's a Homemaker brand - 7" Ashton digital picture frame. The program I am using to make the slideshows with my movies and pics is Ulead Videostudio 8

 

the book says it accepts DAT, MPEG 1 / 2 / 3 /4, AVI, DIVX files but then it says it won't play all DIVX only DIVX2 then it says it won't play every type of MPEG4 it only works with AVI & DIVX (MPEG4) files

Doctor DIVX is the standard DIVX encoder have you tried that one?

Or you could try this http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html to convert to MPEG-4, VCD (Mpeg-1), etc., until you find one that works.

Jeepster, she tried your suggestion

got to try and copy it to flash card - so far i'm thinking no good because it's looking exactly the same as the divx thing i did before didn't work - did exactly the same as my other divx program

Ian, your suggestion,

 

other is just a list of things to covert a file to another file but none of them says divx2 - that's what i really wanted to try - i can get them playing no worries as an mpeg i just wanted to compress them because the files are huge - one mpeg was about 650mb but in divx it is only 125mb so it makes a huge difference

I've never heard of Divx2 either, but if you can convert the files to MPEG-4, you should achieve a similar file size as Divx.

The Doctor DIVX homepage suggests that DIVX2 doesn't actually exist yet, DIVX Pro is the current version available.

ok, she is trying the mpeg-4 and she says she has converted and can see the file but can not play it.

i think you have pointed her in the right direction.
